Frequent Questions

Are there any publicly available tools for looking at the environmental and demographic data around a specific location?

EPA’s environmental justice screening and mapping tool, EJSCREEN uses nationally consistent datasets to map environmental and demographic information.

This web-based tool has been used by EPA to inform outreach and stakeholder engagement, enhance place-based work, and implement various aspects of a variety of agency programs. In 2015, EPA shared EJSCREEN with the public in an effort to be more transparent about how agency considers environmental justice in its work; to assist stakeholders in making informed decisions about pursuing environmental justice; and to create a common starting point between EPA and the public when looking at issues related to environmental justice.
